Howard won $4.00 for the 50/50 drawing and
Sharon drew the Queen of Hearts from the card deck and won the jackpot. There
was $69 in the
pot. Congratulations, Sharon.
Fines
Sue was Sergeant of Arms and the questions
were: In 1946 a Marine Corp veteran opened a hot dog stand in San
Bernadine Ca, what restaurant developed from it-Taco Bell, In 1960 two
brothers Tom and Jim started a business in Michigan with $500.00 the
name was DoniNick's, what restaurant did this turn into-Domino's, In
1930 he opened his first restaurant in a small front room of a gas
station, in 1964 he sold the company for 2 million dollars-KFC, Two
friends completed a $5.00 correspondence course from Penn State, in 1978
they opened their business-Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, in 1958 two
college aged brothers borrowed $600.00 from their mother to open a
restaurant in Wichita Kansas, in 1969 the familiar red roof was
adopted-Pizza Hut.
Club History
Ray talked about the history of our Rotary
club. Ray told the club that he, Stan Saylor and Howard Master visited
the McClure Lion's club but were not able to join. Ray, Stan and Howard
then were asked to be guests at the Selinsgrove club, and in May of 1958
our Rotary club was chartered. Ray is proud of the way our Rotary club
has served the community for the past 50 years.
Cost of Rotary
The cost to be a Rotarian is $19.50 a month
which covers dues, a Rotary magazine and insurance costs for projects.
Our club meets every Tuesday from 5:45pm until 7:00 pm. Rotary clubs
encourage at least 50% attendance. Meetings can be made up by attending
meetings at other Rotary clubs, or on line.

Community Projects
Becky talked about some of the community
projects our club is involved in. Our club provides Valentine baskets
for shut-ins, an egg hunt and poster contest at Easter. Rotary is also
involved with Relay for Life, and has a care and share dinner in
November, also the club packs shoe boxes for underprivileged kids is
many countries. A golf tournament, Chinese Auction, hot dog stand at the
Beaver Fair and selling Christmas candy are some fund raisers our club
is involved with.
International Service
Howard talked about international service. Some
projects are exchange students, waster projects in other countries, and
polio plus which has the world 99% free of polio. LaMar told the club
there are 36 clubs in district 7370 with nearly 1,000 members. Also
there are 1.2 million Rotarians in 166 countries. Rotary has a seat at
the United Nations along with the Red Cross.
Membership
Since it was membership night, some members
brought guests. Sue's guest was Bobbie Herbster, Sharon's guests were
Pam Wagner and Onie Lauver, and Jim Downey and Rich Hess were guests of
LaMar and MaryLee.
Charter Night
On September 25th there will be a charter
meeting at Duboistown, and the weekend of the 13th is the Balloon Fest
at the Williamsport.
Exchange Student
Nicoletta gave the club a flag from the Rotary
club in Italy, and also a magazine in Italian for members to look at.
