Santiago is a 6 year member, secretary and also a Paul Harris member of the Latacunga Rotary Club. The Latacunga Club has 18 members. Most South American clubs are men, and the spouses help with the work. Some of the projects funded by Rotary Clubs were a State School where computers and printers were purchased.

The club’s first project in 1981 was an Old People’s Home were washers, dryers, wheelchairs, walkers, chairs, tables, kitchen appliances, dining room furniture, and refrigerators and freezers were purchased. Another project was a Rehab center for mentally and physically challenged where rehab equipment, furniture, teaching materials and kitchen appliances were purchased. These were also furnished with gas and solar heating.

Eight child development centers were built in Tanichchi to care for 353 children. Santiago’s club helped furnish the Luis Fernando Ruiz State High School with computers and printers.

The club has also built a portable water system, and a Blind association, with equipment and appliances for the blind.
