50/50

Sue won $3.00 for the 50/50 drawing, and MaryLee drew the Ace of Hearts from the card deck.  There is $126 in the pot and 33 cards in the deck.

Fines and Happy Dollars

Sue was Sergeant of Arms and questions were: What candy bar was named after a family horse - Snickers, What candy bar was named after the first baby born in the White House - Baby Ruth, What candy bar was named in a Chicago candy factory for a friend who stopped by to help - O-Henry, How did Hershey Kisses get their name - from the sound the candy made on the paper, and when did Hershey stop making candy - World War II, because of the shortage of aluminum foil.

Sharon had a happy dollar because her group made a record 88.8 dozen cookies over the Thanksgiving holiday. MaryLee had a happy dollar because her 12 year old grandson shot his first deer.

Mihai’s wife Jess told the club about home schooling. Children are home schooled from the age of 8 to 17. A notarized affidavit of general goals for the school year must be submitted to the school district. Subjects required are English, spelling, reading, writing, arithmetic, science, geography and history. The person teaching only needs to have a high school diploma. Parents must keep a portfolio of records and materials, including a log, which must contain days or hours, activities, books that have been read, samples of the school program and learning activities.

Grades 3, 5 and 8 must include standardized achievement test results. At the end of the school year a certified teacher with at least 2 years of experience must review the materials and write a written evaluation, and this evaluation along with the log and portfolio are submitted to the local school district for review.
