50/50

Tammy won $5.00 for the 50/50 drawing, and Miriam won $4.00 for the 50/50 drawing. There is $123 in the pot and 34 cards in the deck.

Fines and Happy Dollars

LaMar was Sergeant of Arms, and his questions were: what year was the first graduation held at West Snyder High School-1956, what year was the first district 7370 Interact club formed-1965, what year was the first West Snyder Rotary Club meeting held-1958, what year did the West Snyder Rotary Club have its first DG-1979-80, and what was the district number when the West Snyder Rotary Club was first chartered-737, what famous Religious leader will make his first visit to the United States-the Pope.

MaryLee had a happy dollar because she is feeling better, and was able to come to tonight’s meeting. Becky had a happy dollar because she is going to be a grandmother next Spring, and Cara had a happy dollar because she met a student who would like to be a foreign exchange student.

Dictionaries

Carolyn and Mihai delivered dictionaries to the Midd-West School District 3rd graders. All the teachers and children appreciated them.

Membership

LaMar talked about the history of the West Snyder Rotary Club. West Snyder Rotary Club’s first meeting was on February 19th, 1958 at Leo’s restaurant. On April 14th, 1958 the club was chartered, and on May 1st, 1958 the charter service was held at the West Snyder High School. LaMar worked at Leo’s restaurant in 1956, 57 & 58, and helped prepare meals for the first West Snyder Rotary Club. Stan Saylor was the first DG for the West Snyder Rotary Club. Our club has one of the highest attendance percentages. Rotary Clubs are in more than 200 countries.

Carolyn talked about community service. Some of these programs include, Care and Share, the club provided benches in McClure, selling hot dogs at the Beaver Fair, an Easter Egg hunt for local kids, student grants, Relay for Life teams, fruit baskets for shut-ins, and 3rd grade dictionaries.

Howard talked about international service. $8,000.00 has been provided for water projects in Ecuador, and the club also helped with a water therapy program at a Catholic church in Ecuador. Our club has decided to continue having Foundation donations go toward water projects. Flavia also talked about Rotary clubs helping with child care and school projects in Brazil.

Tammy talked about how much it costs to be a member of Rotary. Members are billed quarterly. International dues are $13.75, and district dues are $5.65. Members are also billed for their meals quarterly. Rotary International would like to have 1,000 members per district. Dues will increase if the districts are split because of lack of members. There are 33 clubs in district 7370. It is possible a new club will start in Mifflinburg and Pine Grove. As an incentive for new members, District 7370 will not charge district dues for the first year of membership.

Candy Sale

MaryLee reported $900.00 in candy sales, and the club will get 25% of the sales. The candy will be picked up near the end of November.
