College in High School

Bobbie Landis was a guest of Elaine, and talked about a program at Central Penn College called College in High School. The program is designed to bridge the gap between high school and college. The program is for junior and senior high school students who would like to get a head start on college credits. These credits can be earned by attending classes in high school, online by way of Blackboard programs, or a blended program which includes online classes and attending campus classes. High school teachers are certified by Central Penn to teach these classes. Classes are formatted to mirror high school marking periods. Central Penn offers these classes at a 75% savings. Courses cost $225.00, and there are no application or processing fees. An undergraduate would pay $999.00 for the same course. There is no financial aid available, and no refunds after a course is started. Students are required to do internships, and must maintain a 2.0 grade average. Students attending campus classes must maintain a professional appearance, and can miss 4 classes per term. An average class has 16 students, and there are career services available. An Associate degree can be earned in 18 months, and a Bachelor degree in 3 years. An application, parental consent and teacher recommendations are required to get started.
