50/50

Tim won $6.00 for the 50/50 drawing, and LaMar  drew the Queen of Spades from the card deck. There is $52 in the pot and 45 cards in the deck.

Fines and Happy Dollars

Becky was Sergeant of Arms and members paid fines is you were late, if you did not know that 1776 was the year of Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. In 1777 fireworks were associated with the 4th of July, Massachusetts was the first state to recognize the 4th of July as a holiday, and in 1870 Congress made the 4th of July a Federal holiday.

Ray had a happy dollar because he had a flat tire in front of Best Way, but at least it was off the road. Sharon and MaryLee had happy dollars because they heard from Christian. LaMar had a happy dollar because Loren was a guest, and for his service to our country. Howard had a happy dollar because his whole family will be coming this weekend.

Guests

Guests were Loren Smith, his daughter Logan, his sister Lara and her son Stetson, and Loren's mother Dale Smith. Ron Spotts was also a guest.

Iraq

Loren has 22-1/2 years of military service between the U.S. Army Reserves and the Marine Corp. During his time in the service he was a truck driver and a Calvary scout. During the Iraq war he served as an MP. He was close to Sadom several times, and escorted prisoners. Most of the people in Baghdad wanted protection. Loren became friends with some of the kids, most of them just wanted to talk to American's. Loren told us there is a lot more good done there than is shown on TV. One of the things the people were glad about was being able to vote for their own government. The Green Zone in the center of Baghdad was where the elite lived, where there was a hospital that only these people could use. The weather was very hot, he remembers one day the temperature was 156 degrees. Loren feels the U.S. needs to stay to make a difference.
