50/50

Mihai won $5.00 for the 50/50 drawing, and Becky drew the Ace of Spades from the card deck.  There was $142 in the pot.  Congratulations Becky.

Fines and Happy Dollars

LaMar was in charge of tonight's meeting in the absence of Tammy.

Mihai had to pay a fine for having his picture in the paper. Other members paid fines if they did not attend the Lewisburg club's meeting last week, if members did not know that Corbett Monica is the present DG, if members did not remember that the 2008 Conference will be in Williamsport, what Foundation will match 100 million dollars for Polio Plus: the Gates Foundation, who has a 9% growth rate in the US-District 7370, and what college team won a football game last night-LSU.

Becky had a happy dollar because she will be getting a granddaughter, and Lamar had a happy dollar for the guest Cathy from Haven Ministry.

Officer Needed

Our club still needs someone willing to serve as vice president next year.  If you are willing to serve your club, please let Tammy know.

Anniversary Celebration.

Cathy Teisher the Executive Director for Haven Ministry was a guest speaker. Haven Ministry is an emergency homeless shelter. Clients must be referred, often by state or local police or the Red Cross. Clients are all screened, and must be willing to look for homes and jobs. Random drug and alcohol tests are done. Out of state clients only stay for a week, just long enough to rest and eat. Haven Ministry serves Snyder, Union and Northumberland counties.

In 2007 1,930 food orders were taken. These clients just need help to feed their families. 2,690 adults and 5,670 children were fed with these orders. Haven Ministry is a converted motel with 6 family rooms, a dorm for single men and a dorm for single women. 3 employees make up the staff; Cathy is the full time director; there is a part time assistant who works various hours, but is paid for 25 hours a week; and 1 full time housekeeping employee, who does most of the cooking and cleaning. There is a 9:00 pm curfew, and allowance for special events. Food and money donations, and volunteers are always welcome.
