Midd-West School District

Club member Elaine talked to the club about our Midd-West School District, and how she is a part of it. Elaine grew up in Pittston, and had a Bachelors degree in Speech Pathology. She later got a Masters degree and split her time working between Selinsgrove and Midd-West School Districts. Eventually she became a full time principal at the Beaver Adams and McClure grade schools. She also was a Special Education supervisor for the Midd-West School District. Some of her goals for the coming school year are to create opportunities for everyone in the school district, to establish a curriculum for all grades and all courses, to develop a marketing plan for the school district, and to study the plan for cyber schools that cost the school district three to four hundred thousand dollars, to upgrade the emergency plans for the district, and a 5 year upgrade plan for all the buildings in the school district. 100% of the teachers in the Midd-West School District have a qualified teacher status by federal mandates. Some of the goals already met this past year were 320 conferences for teachers and teacher aids, Summer teacher institutes for credit, a grant for classrooms for the future for teacher institute coach and equipment. Another goal is to maintain all curriculum without a tax increase. The No Child Left Behind Program requires a 90% attendance, 95% participation in the testing, and 90% graduation. The district met all the goals for reading and math. Some new programs in the district are to offer full day kindergarten, reading comprehension, every middle school student will receive a calculator, elementary science programs, and operation Safe Surf, and a program on the dangers of the Internet, 1 in every 7 kids are sexually solicited on line.
