Virginia won $6.00 for the 50/50 drawing, and
Jean drew the seven of hearts from the card deck. There is $90 in the
pot and 39 cards in the deck.
Fines and Happy Dollars
Howard had two questions: who is the woman on
the cover of the new Rotary magazine (Catherine Noyer-Riveau, the first
female Rotary International director) and what year did Paul Harris die
(1947) Last year's donations to the foundation were 102.5 million
dollars.
Carolyn had a happy dollar because she had a
good trip to Switzerland.

China
Carolyn's guest was Dottie Anderson who told
the club about her trip to China. China is a Communist country which is
fast becoming Capitalist. Dottie started her trim in Hong Kong . Hong
Kong has it's own money, and does not have the 1 child policy. Hong Kong
is 416 square miles. In Hong Kong there are a lot of Philippine women
who work as maids. Housing in Hong Kong is very small. Everyone lives in
apartments, most families only have about 400 square feet of living
space. The most common pets in China are birds. Buddhism is the main
religion. In Shang Hi there is a large Jewish population. There are 54
different nationalities in Shang Hi, with 90% being Hon. China has a
population of 1.3 billion, 1/4 of the world's population. In China women
retire at the age of 55, and men retire at the age of 60. In Xian there
is a pollution problem, they burn the wheat stubbles. Bejing is the
Forbidden City. Almost anywhere is China Chinese papers in English can
be purchased.
